The Association “Anti Stigma”
is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with the main aim to reduce stigma towards mental problems.

Vision and mission of the Association “Anti Stigma”:

“Anti Stigma” wants a world where people with mental problems are not stigmatized and discriminated. Therefore, “Anti Stigma” tries to fight stigmatization of people with mental problems and promote their integration into society assuring one of the main human rights for living with dignity and equality. “Anti Stigma” defines its working in the following strategic directions: community-based programs, communication-education oriented programs and lobby-advocacy.

The organization was founded in Tbilisi and has been working in the field of mental health care since 2001. “Anti Stigma” began its work as volunteers in Tbilisi mental hospital – in the most stigmatized institution in psychiatric system of Georgia, where living conditions of patients were inhuman and unbearable. With the financial support of the Dutch foundation Cordaid, we fulfilled several rehabilitation projects in the above mentioned hospital.

For the past seceral years, “Anti Stigma” has followed two main strategic directions: influencing the public awareness – underlying factor of stigma and providing availability of modern services for the people with mental problems, which are at risk of being stigmatized.

At the present the ongoing project includes the following activities: within the community-based programs Day Activity Centre for people with mental problems with User Personal Development Club; communication- education oriented programs embrace school programs, training courses for school psychologists, teachers and parents, also anti – stigma actions with the users’ participation; within lobby- advocacy, the association representative actively participates in mental health coalition and the process of mental health service reforming - elaboration of mental health care state policy, national guidelines and psychiatric programs.
